Madikwe Game Reserve is a top Big 5 wildlife safari destination and has accommodation at luxury private game lodges in a malaria free environment. It is one of the largest game reserves in South Africa and hosts a wide variety of wildlife species, including the famous Big 5 animals and the endangered Wild Dog (Cape Hunting Dog). Madikwe is also a sought after destination for birders as the birdlife is abundant with more than 340 resident and migrant bird species.
All the lodges offer exciting day and night game drives conducted in open safari vehicles, accompanied by professional, experienced Field Guides and Rangers. Guests will be able to see and experience nature at work while viewing the variety of wildlife that presents excellent photographic opportunities. Madikwe Game Reserve is located in North West Province of South Africa on the border with Botswana. The reserve can be reached by air or by road. It is about 3.5 hours’ drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria.
