SABI SANDS SAFARI & TABLE MOUNTAIN

9 Days / 8 Nights

1 January – 31 December 2022

The most famous private game reserve of all. Sabi Sands Game Reserve, adjacent to South Africa’s flagship Kruger National Park, offers a safari experience found nowhere else in the world. Game viewing possibilities are simply unparalleled, including the much sought after ‘Big 5’. Add a fantastic range of luxury lodges suiting all tastes and a African dream safari is born. There are no fences between Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve, so wildlife roams freely in huge natural environment.

The Sabi Sands is in particular well known for its amazing leopard sightings. The most elusive animal of the Big 5 is frequently spotted when going on a game drive in the reserve. As such, Sabi Sands offers the ultimate photographic safari one can think of. You can be certain to return home with some absolutely stunning pictures and memories. Besides the Big 5, other game species occur in great numbers, among which are more than 300 bird species. Sabi Sands possibly makes the best South African safari destination for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and bird watchers alike.

Table Mountain National Park defines the city. The flat-topped mountain is the headline act, but there are many other equally gorgeous natural landscapes within the park’s extensive boundaries. Cultivated areas, such as the historic Company’s Garden, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and Green Point Urban Park, also make exploring the city a pleasure. Follow the lead of locals by taking full advantage of the abundant outdoor space: learn to surf; go hiking or mountain biking; tandem-paraglide off Lion’s Head; abseil off the top of Table Mountain – just a few of the many activities on offer.

Tour Plan

1

Arrival

On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team, who will accompany you to the Federal Air hanger, where you will board a light aircraft flight to Sabi Sand Airstrip/Skukuza Airport. A vehicle will be waiting at the Airstrip and will take you to &Beyond Kirkman's Camp.

Day 1 - 4 – The Sabi Sand Game Reserve

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which borders the Kruger National Park, is made up of a number of private game lodges, each one differing in atmosphere, and a visit to the area guarantees a never-to-be-forgotten experience of the African bush. With no fences between the farms (or, for that matter, between them and the Kruger Park), animals wander across vast stretches of grazing land as they did years and years ago. With one of the richest game populations in the country, the chances of seeing the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino) are excellent. The reserve is also home to a host of other animals – but be warned: chances are that one visit to the area will probably lead to many more! Spend four nights at &Beyond Kirkman's camp in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Explore the bush on twice-daily game drives that venture out in search of the Big Five, as well as a host of other fascinating creatures. The Sabi Sand is particularly well known for sightings of the normally elusive leopard, so make sure to keep an eye out for this graceful and elegant cat. The early morning game drives leaves shortly after dawn, with the mysteries of the bush lying open before you. Your experienced ranger and tracker team will discuss what you hope to see prior to the drive and will do their best to find all your favourite animals for you.

Day 5 – Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to either Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport or Skukuza Airport. Here you will board a scheduled SA Airlink flight to Cape Town International Airport. A member of the &Beyond team will be waiting for you at Cape Town International Airport and you will be transferred by road to The Queen Victoria Hotel in Cape Town. With Table Mountain, one of the most spiritual places on earth, at its heart and two oceans at its feet, the city of Cape Town, strategically situated at the south-western tip of Africa, has been famed for centuries as the Tavern of the Seas. Vibrant, cosmopolitan and an eclectic mix of old and new, this laid-back city is as much at home with its 17th century castle (whose cannons have never been fired in anger) as it is with its sleek skyscrapers and trendy malls. Home to South Africa’s first mosque, the country’s oldest wine farm, a 350-year-old garden and timelessly beautiful beaches, it’s no surprise the legendary Flying Dutchman and his spectral ship have spent eternity sailing the city’s shores.

Day 5- 8 – The Queen Victoria Hotel, Cape Town

Enjoy four nights at The Queen Victoria Hotel in Cape Town. Spend the next few days enjoying the extraordinary beauty of this scenic town and its surroundings with your choice of exciting activities: Indulge in a full day in the spectacular Cape Winelands, beginning with your first wine tasting on the way to Franschhoek, home to award-winning wine estates and known as South Africa’s gourmet capital. Drive past the Groot Drakenstein Prison, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated before his release and where he took his first steps as a free man. Visit the village of Franschhoek and see the Huguenot monument. Enjoy wine tasting in and around Franschhoek before stopping in the village for lunch. Continue your journey through the panoramic landscapes of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass, stopping for a third wine tasting in the area, time permitting. Your adventure ends with a leisurely stroll along the oak-lined streets of the university town of Stellenbosch, well known for its traditional Cape Dutch architecture. Back in Cape Town, take a cable car to the top of iconic Table Mountain and marvel at the magnificent views from its flat top. Browse vibrant Greenmarket Square, one of the city’s oldest markets, and walk through Company Garden, established by Dutch settlers in 1652. Visit the traditional Malay Quarter, with it brightly coloured houses, and indulge in a glimpse into one of the city’s vibrant cultures. Set out on a ferry ride to Robben Island, best known as the site of a jailhouse for political prisoners, including former South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela. Your tour of the island is guided by a former political inmate, which means you will hear first-hand tales of its story of hope and hardship. Drive through the lovely scenery of the Cape Peninsula to beautiful Hout Bay. Visit the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.
