Since our inception we have understood that a journey can act like truth serum. For a finite space in time the traveller is buffered against what is taken for granted and is able to experience enlightenment, beauty and Technicolor dreams.
The luxurious Tongabezi Lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, just upstream of the Victoria Falls. The lodge features a lounge, a bar, and a swimming pool which has been landscaped into the rock face. Meals are served in the large dining room, on an outdoor deck overlooking the river, in the privacy of your room, or floating on the Zambezi River. The five houses and four river cottages are each individually styled and cater for two to five guests. Game drives, bush walks and boating trips are all-inclusive. Victoria Falls can be viewed in close proximity to the lodge, on a short excursion with your guide.
Experience private romance at the Honeymoon House, wake up amongst the trees in the Tree House, or enjoy a romantic dinner from your own private deck overlooking the Zambezi River from a River Cottage.
A wide range of activities are on offer during your stay at Tongabezi. Visit Victoria Falls, enjoy an early morning Game Drive, drift down the Zambezi River on a Sunset Cruise, or book a romantic Sampan dinner floating out on the river. There are also some great activities for adrenaline junkies – white water rafting, elephant back safaris, micro-lighting, helicopter rides, or the famous Victoria Falls bungee jump. Community minded? Do visit our Tongabezi Trust School, Tujatane.
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Mosi-oa-Tunya or ‘the smoke that thunders’ is a short drive from Tongabezi. Our guides will take you to view the breath-taking sheet of water cascading down 108m and walk across Knife Edge bridge. During high water, you might be drenched in the spray. You can also visit Livingstone Island where David Livingstone first gazed on the Falls, swim in Devil’s Pool on the very edge of the abyss, or take a micro-light or helicopter flight through the gorge and over the Falls.
When it comes to the human ritual of dining, Tongabezi is consistently voted a compulsive overachiever by our guests. Whether you consider food a means to improve health, gain pleasure, refresh body and mind, explore new experiences, initiate conversation or strengthen relationships we have every base covered. Venue options start in your room – there is a dedicated dining area in all of our Houses and Cottages and both our properties have a number of public dining spots too.
‘Welcome to Tongabezi’. If you’ve ever been our guest, you’ll always remember the warm Zambian hospitality of our team. After toasting your arrival with a local aperitif, your personal valet will take you to one of our unique Houses or River Cottages along the banks of the Zambezi and will take care of you for the duration of your stay.
